August 2018 Meeting Recap
The Southwood CDD held its August 2018 meeting on August 16 at the Southwood Community Center. Highlights included:
Board Changes
Supervisor David Ramba submitted a letter of resignation in August, which the Board accepted at the meeting. The Board indicated it will consider appointing a new supervisor at the September meeting.
Park Update
Ashley Edwards with the City of Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Department presented an update on the city park planned for the southeast side of the neighborhood. She discussed methods for providing feedback and a tentative schedule for breaking ground and construction.
Independence Landing Update
Allison Tant provided an update on Independence Landing, the community planned for a parcel of land adjacent to the planned City park. The community will provide an independent living opportunity for people with cognitive or physical disabilities.
Budget
The Board opened the public hearing on the budget, took public comment and voted to continue the hearing until the September meeting. Budget highlights discussed include:
- No change in the total amount of O&M assessments for Fiscal Year 2018-2019;
- The Board is evaluating a plan to return the remaining recreation-related funds collected in Fiscal Year 2016-2017. The funds would be returned to each property under the same assessment methodology in which they were assessed. This return of assessments may be accomplished via an off-set of the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 O&M Assessments; and
- The Board asked staff to identify the funds for a traffic study previously approved at the cost of $8,500 to evaluate whether street parking is necessary near the Four Oaks roundabout.
Additionally, the Board began the process to assess the Southwood House parcel for O&M assessments for Fiscal Year 2018-2019. A public hearing on the District’s intent to levy O&M assessments on the Southwood House parcel is set for the September meeting.
